When you live out in the country, you need to have a septic system to handle all the wastewater that gets generated in your house. A septic system is made up of a few pieces. One part is the tank, which has two chambers, one for the incoming wastewater, and the second for water that has been in the tank and started to get clean. After the water leaves the tank, it goes out through a series of pipes and seeps from those pipes into the leech field. The water will then slowly join the aquifer. That is how your septic tank should ideally work, but that isn't what is always going to happen. Your tank can break down and get a hole in it. When that happens, you will want to call a septic tank repair company to handle the issue. 

Pump the Tank

The first thing that the septic tank repair company is going to do is pump the tank out. They use a large vacuum truck with a tank to suck everything out of the tank. The tank needs to be empty so that the tech can repair the hole in your tank. They may also have to spray the inside of your tank down with a hose so that the service tech can see the extent of the damage and can have a generally clean space for the repair to take place.

Limit the Damage

When the service tech finds the hole in the septic tank, they are going to do what they can to make sure that more damage doesn't happen while they are trying to repair the damage. It doesn't always happen, but it is something the service tech needs to be aware of. The easiest way to do that is to drill a small hole at the top and the bottom of the crack or hole. That hole will keep existing damage from spreading. 

Plastic Welding

While welding is generally used on metal, it is possible to weld plastic. That's what the tech will do to repair the crack or the hole in your septic tank. When they have finished the weld, the service tech will want to let it set for an hour or two so that it will be a solid join. At that point, the service tech will check to make sure that the tank won't leak. 

If you have a septic tank, you need to make sure that it is in good shape. If something does happen, call a septic repair company to come to check out the problem and repair it if possible.
